Children’s Therapeutic Services and Support (CTSS)
CTSS is a flexible set of services for children who have mental health concerns that interfere with daily functioning. It assists and supports a child and their family in developing skills in areas such as anger management, aggression, following directions, cooperation, following rules, relating to peers, anxiety, depression, compliance, family conflicts, and others. We provide each child with the necessary support to function effectively.
Utilizing this rehabilitation seeks to restore children to a level of functioning they had or would have achieved had they not been impaired by a mental health disorder or trauma. The social-emotional learning that occurs includes self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, future self, and other rehabilitative behavioral skills intended to help a child function as well as possible.
CTSS can prevent more intensive options such as day treatment or residential services.
CTSS includes two services:
Skills Training A skills practitioner teaches social skills, coping skills, executive functioning skills, and other rehabilitative behavioral skills tailored to what the child needs to learn.
Psychotherapy Trained therapists allow the child to explore thoughts and feelings that may contribute to decreased daily functioning. Therapists actively collaborate with other team members.
Families are encouraged to participate, as they:
>Provide valuable feedback
>Offer information about a child's needs for success
>Reinforce learned skills and therapeutic concepts at home
Services occur within the school environment.
