Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS)

Our Certified Peer Support Specialists are individuals who have experienced mental health challenges and have undergone specialized training to assist others. They share their personal stories and serve as role models for wellness. As qualified Mental Health Practitioners, they provide support by offering a unique perspective from their own life experiences, helping you navigate your own recovery journey.

Peer support can assist in the areas of health, home, purpose, and community by:
• Guiding and encouraging you to feel less alone and gain hope
• Walking with you on your recovery journey
• Inspiring hope, confidence, self-esteem, and empowerment
• Improving quality of life, including physical health and wellness
• Dispelling myths about mental illness
• Helping you create a roadmap for your goals, hopes, and dreams
• Breaking down barriers to community resources
• Reducing rehospitalization and days spent in inpatient settings

Who are CMMHC’s Peer Support Specialists? Our Peer Support Specialists, as non-clinical professionals, provide support and hope by sharing their own stories and serving as role models for wellness. They understand the challenges you face because they have their own lived experience with mental health conditions. Each Specialist undergoes specialized training, passes a certification exam, and engages in supervised work experience hours.

You must participate in another service to utilize Peer Support Services, either by accessing services from CMMHC or by receiving services from another community provider with whom we can collaborate.
